Happy Lent Term 2021!

Welcome back to school, albeit remotely for (hopefully) a short while! This page will provide you with some details of the work which we intend to cover during the Lent Term, so that you can support your child with their learning.

In English, we will be covering a range of topics including non-fiction and narrative writing. Alongside this, the children will be developing their knowledge and understanding of basic spelling, punctuation and grammar, which the children know as SPAG for short! We will also be sending home a copy of your child’s weekly spellings on Fridays. Please encourage your child to practice these over the course of the week in preparation for a test on the following Friday.

In Mathematics, the children will continue to carry out both mental and written methods of addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and will be introduced to division. They will also be covering work on money, statistics and geometry. It is very important that all children in Year 2 learn the key instant recall facts (KIRFs) which form the basis of your child’s mathematics homework. These can be found at the back of your child’s reading record book. Please continue to regularly practice these number facts at home with your child.

Our Topic this term will be based around ‘Keeping Healthy’. This will include learning about how to keep our bodies healthy and finding out where our food comes from. To support this, we will be visiting ‘We the Curious’ to take part in the ‘Brain and Body’ themed day and we are also planning visits to a local farm, a processing factory, and local supermarket to fully understand the ‘farm to fork’ process; further details to follow.

In History, our topic is ‘Nurturing Nurses’ and we will be developing our awareness of the lives of significant nurses in the past. Our Art, DT and Computing sessions will aim to link with these topics wherever possible. In RS, we will be learning about Hindu celebrations and later in the term, Easter.

Weekly French lessons with Madame Harvey and Music with Mr Dayus-Jones will take place as usual on a Friday, and Forest School will continue to take place on Thursdays. We will have PE lessons on Thursdays and Games lessons on Fridays. It is important that your child has their full PE kit in school every day and Mr Halls has requested that your child has a gum shield and a pair of shin pads in school as the children will be developing their hockey skills this term.

Dates for Your Diary

I hope this letter will be of use to you, however, should you need to see me to discuss this information further or for any other matters regarding your child, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,
