U13 Girls Progress to the County Cup Final

What a spooky start to the day! These are the results of yesterday's pumpkin carving competition which looked much… https://t.co/TELIGZ2blL - 12 hours ago

Well done to our U13 girls who recently competed in the County Cup cricket competition. In the first round against Wellington, our team batted first, and with real confidence securing 86 off 10 overs. Elise Roberts and Harriet Wrelton had to retire after scoring 20 quick runs, with Harriet coming off 13 balls and including a great 6. Sophie Flatt then got 16 off 12 balls, before a brilliant final over from Wellington meant we lost 4 wickets in one over.

However, some very tight bowling and good communicating in the field meant Wellington were only able to score 68, with wickets coming from Lexie Wallace, Emily Ogle, Elise and Sophie.

In round two – the semi-final –the girls faced Taunton Prep School. Winning the toss, the team decided to bat or bowl??? first. Once again, the girls showed great awareness and worked well together in the field, with Florence Delafield-Cook playing solidly behind the stumps. Jazmine Kerr and Harriet both took a wicket, and Sophie took 3 wickets from her 2 overs.

The girls, however, may have been a little too excited to go out and chase 60 scored by Taunton, and rather worryingly, were 3 for 2 after the first over. Nevertheless, Sophie and Harriet came in and steadied the ship, with both scoring quick 20s (Sophie’s coming off 15 balls!). Niamh Wait and Florence then saw the team home to a comfortable win in the 8th over.

Games Teacher, Anna Hardy, said: “The girls were extremely confident throughout and I commend them on their team effort. They now look forward to competing in the final at King’s Bruton next month.”
