Special Celebrations for Chinese New Year
Last week our international boarders were invited to King’s College for a special supper in celebration of Chinese New Year. Our children took great pleasure in being able to share in such a special occasion and enjoyed celebrating with their friends, as well as the older pupils.
Nearly 100 guests attended the lavish event, making it a great success. The dining hall looked beautiful, decorated in vibrant red and gold by an army of helpers just an hour beforehand. As always, the catering team did a superb job in setting up the tables with individually designed place settings and Chinese red wallets, as well as an abundance of Chinese sweets provided by the pupils.
The evening opened with speeches from the Sixth Form pupils, firstly in Mandarin by Shani M, then the English translation from Ryan L and finally the Cantonese version by Harry A-Y. The atmosphere was happy and relaxed and the food was delicious with a varied array of dishes.
The following day, back at King’s Hall, our whole school welcomed in the Year of the Rat with yet another delicious feast. The catering corridor was beautifully decked with traditional Chinese decorations and pupils were treated to a menu of chicken chow mein, steamed rice, salt and pepper tofu, and delicious stir-fry vegetables. There were even fortune pancakes on offer, for good luck of course!
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at both King’s Hall and King’s College for making these celebrations so special.
