Proud Maisie Wins Bronze at Fencing Championships

Maisie Everett was back at King’s Hall this week, proudly clutching the bronze fencing medal that she won at the recent England Youth Championships, which were held at the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village.

In the Epee, 13-year-old Maisie had a tough poule. In one fight she had to come back from 4-0 down and went on to win 6-5, placing eighth overall.

Into DEs, Maisie gained a first easy victory at 10-1, but then faced her earlier opponent from the poule. This time however, it was Maisie that kept her cool and she took the victory 10-5. She then had a call for the next DE against a girl who has been fairly lethal this year, but with some smart thinking, she took the victory at 10-7.

Maisie was really up for the semi-final – back and forth, ahead, behind, and then at 9-9 it went to extra time with her opponent gaining the priority and finally the last point. However, she came away with the Under 13 Epee bronze medal out of a very high calibre field of 35. We congratulate her on this fantastic achievement.
