What is Pelican Explorers?

What is Pelican Explorers?

Pelican Explorers is an outdoor learning programme, primarily aimed at children aged 3-4. These fun sessions are located in our 'Little Wood', and led by Nursery Assistant, Mrs Clare Wrelton. The idea is to enable pre-school children the opportunity to socialise and learn through child-initiated play. While we suggest these sessions are more suited to children aged 3 to 4, we do have children as young as 18 months join the sessions if they are sturdy on their feet!

Activities are often themed around the seasons and special days such as Halloween. We love building campfires and have been known to toast the odd marshmallows or smores, accompanied by hot chocolate (loved by parents as well as children!). Other popular activities include (careful) pumpkin carving, autumn leaf art, woodland dogs from logs, and planting runner beans and other seasonal vegetables.

The sessions are perfect for little ones who love the great outdoors!

The Pelican Explorers programme is overseen by Mrs Claire Luckhurst. Claire is the Head of Pre-Prep at King's Hall School and has over 20 years of experience in the early years sector.

To become part of the Explorers family, there would normally be a £20 joining fee. This would cover your child's uniform and starter pack, and will also grant you access to seven different classes which change termly, reflecting popularity and demand. Classes run in blocks of 10 weeks, with each block costing approximately £50 per class. However, due to current circumstances, we have waived the joining fee and will not be issuing uniforms or starter packs.

Joining fee: £20 (waived at present)
Taster session: £5 (1 per activity)
Classes: approximately £50 (for each 10-week block)

Pelican Pioneers

Pelican Pioneers

The sky is the limit for our Pelican Pioneers, who, in our specially designed Forest School areas known as ‘Little Wood' and 'Big Wood' are able to embrace their inner-explorers. Our secluded woodlands prove the perfect playground in which children are free to enjoy activities such as den building, tree climbing, animal petting, and outdoor cooking.

These sessions usually take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10.00am - 11.30am.
