Landy and Friends Author Veronica Lamond Visits King's Hall
On Monday, our Pre-Prep pupils received a very special visit from author and illustrator, Veronica Lamond.
Veronica is best known for her popular Landy and Friends picture books – a series that engages young children in diverse, real life adventures through the loveable characters of Landy (a 1956 Series 1 Landrover) and Fender (a 1999 Defender).
Throughout the morning, she spoke to all pupils from Nursery to Year 2 about how she produces her books, showing them the very palette she uses to bring her characters to life! The children were also lucky enough to hear passages from Veronica’s novels in a unique reading workshop.
To round off the experience, the pupils gathered on the school field to meet a very special guest …
… accompanied by Landrover Engineer Mick Moore was none other than Landy himself!
Purchased by Mick in 1993, Veronica fell head over heels for the trusty automobile after stumbling across Mick’s garage in Wadebridge, Cornwall in 2009.
That year, Veronica and Mick met several times to discuss ideas for a children’s book, and the rest was history.
Our children had such a fantastic time interacting with the vintage automobile and even had the opportunity to hop inside!
We are especially thankful to the Gostling family for providing this wonderful opportunity for our Pre-Prep pupils.
King’s Hall Librarian, Emily Marcuccilli, said: “A wonderful day was had by all, with the arrival of Landy himself really bringing these charming stories to life for our littlest bookworms.”
