Hickstead Success for our Riders

RT @KHS_Head: Well done boys - glad to hear from Mr Halls that it was a lovely afternoon and great team performance. I know you'l… https://t.co/YWTeVC0Ujv - 3 days ago

Our equestrian team headed to the prestigious All England Jumping Course at Hickstead over the bank holiday weekend with ten riders representing the school in nine different classes. Qualification for these events takes place earlier in the year and our riders have had phenomenal success in securing their place to ride here over the years. It's great to see so many former King's Hall pupils enjoying their riding.

In a very large and competitive field, Tilly F and her horse Wonford Touch Flame put in a fantastic performance to win the 80cm National Arena Eventing class.

In the show jumping competition and qualifying for the Championships at Addington, Josh C came 3rd individually and the team of Josh, older brother Sam, and Skye F came 2nd in the 90cm. Josh also won the 80cm class as an individual.

Other notable performances were the team of Tilly F, Harriet W and Tabitha T (our youngest rider) coming 3rd in the 70cm Eventers' Challenge, and in the 80cm Jumping with Style class, Dandi P came 4th as an individual, with Tabitha taking 4th as an individual in the 70/75cm class.

Continuing his winning streak, Josh won the Junior Boys (15-years of age) class, representing the South West at the Junior Home International Tetrathlon Championships at Morton Morrell. This event sees competitors undertake rounds in shooting, swimming, riding and running, with Josh completing the fastest run of the day. Very much like Modern Pentathlon, Tetrathlon provides members with a challenging competition requiring practical horsemanship, general athletic ability and a steady hand for shooting.

Our Head of Equestrian, Mrs Bennett, congratulates everyone for taking part. She said: "Everyone continues to put in the hours it takes to qualify and compete at these events. The classes are always competitive and our pupils are up against some of the best young riders from other schools across the country. They are a dedicated bunch and I am just so proud of their achievements – riding is a wonderful sport to be a part of and is something these pupils thoroughly enjoy."

She added: "I'd like to thank the many parents who attend these events week in week out and for the support they give to the school and to the whole team."
