Half Term Sporting Successes
The half term holiday has seen a number of our pupils enjoy sporting successes, from equestrian to golf, to cricket, football and tennis.
The King’s Equestrian team fielded a huge number of riders at various events, and at the very end of the half term break, we had 21 teams enter in the Eventers Challenge at nearby Pontispool Equine Sports Centre. Particular congratulations go to Tabitha T, Josh C, and two former King's hall pupils, Harriet W, and Tilly F, who all qualified for Hickstead in the 80cm class. Tabitha also finished 1st in this class as an individual rider, with and Josh placing 8th. Senior pupils at King's College also competed and qualified for Hickstead in the Eventers Challenge and at an earlier NSEA championship event.
A number of King's Hall pupils have been awarded places on the Somerset County Cricket Player Pathways. The Somerset County Age Group Programme gives players access to targeted and specific training in a suitable environment to develop and implement their cricket skills. With access to many opportunities through training sessions, development days and fixtures, the aim is to develop and broaden their game, focusing on a player’s role within the side and how their performance can influence the result. We will be reporting on this in full next week.
In golf, Year 7 pupil Noah J was part of the winning team, representing Oake Manor against local rivals Taunton and Pickeridge in the Somerset Junior Matchplay Knockout Cup. The final was held at Weston-Super-Mare Golf Club, where the two local clubs came face to face. Oake Manor finally took the edge over their neighbours, and won the cup, 2-1. Noah was absolutely delighted to have been part of the winning team! Theo L was playing for the opposing team, both boys giving some exceptional performances throughout their matches. And for Year 8 pupil Thomas R, he was selected to represent Somerset in U14 golf for the 2020/2021 season. Playing off an impressive handicap of 11, Thomas also plays golf at Taunton & Pickeridge.
Charlie S, having recently attended two trials for the schools' district football team, was successful in gaining selection to play for the Taunton District FA team. During half term they enjoyed their first training match against Exeter City Academy.
Year 7 pupil Zane A has been successful in gaining a place with Taunton Tennis Club after attending recent trials, and in multi-sports, Year 8 Darcie came third in the socially distanced Bath Duathlon.
A great number of our pupils play sport in and out of
school, and the provision and breadth of sport we offer, enables them to
develop a range of skills throughout the year. We're always delighted to see
them doing so well, as demonstrated by the many pupils who have clearly been
working hard in their training over the holidays.
