Grace Ranked Second in the South West
After enjoying a successful pre-season, King’s Hall pupil Grace Fielder headed to Millfield to take part in the Under 15 pentathlon, consisting of 7 metre hurdles, shot putt, high jump, long jump and 800 metres.
Despite entering the event a year young, the talented athlete had aspirations to do well. A personal best of 12.2 seconds in the hurdles got Grace off to a good start, and this was soon followed with a solid shot putt of 7.95 metres. In the high jump, another personal best of 1.51 metres moved her up to third place, a position which she held onto after a long jump of 4.67 metres.
After a gruelling day, Grace produced another personal best with a time of 2:33:34, finishing the day with a bronze, beating competition from over 40 competitors. Her final score was 2804, automatically ranking her second in the South West. With a bronze medal, Grace has all but secured her place in the Somerset team for the Regional Championships. Taking place at Exeter Arena next month, she will be hoping to compete for Somerset and qualify for the National Combined Event Championship in September.
