Distinction for JJ in Music Theory Exam
Year 6 pupil JJ Dayus-Jones has recently achieved a Distinction in his Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 5 theory exam. This is a tremendous achievement in an exam that is considered to be roughly the equivalent of a GCSE in music.
Following an intensive weekend of studying, JJ completed the two-hour written paper, armed with only a pencil and a term’s worth of knowledge. The exam tested his understanding of complex harmony and scales, foreign musical terms, transposition, and clef reading, among other topics.
This accomplishment follows JJ’s recent success in scoring a merit at Grade 6 cello, as well as his involvement in the Somerset County Youth Orchestra and the Taunton Children’s Orchestra. On top of this, JJ is also set to become a member of the Devon County Youth Orchestra later this year. All equally impressive achievements – well done JJ!
