Cricketing Century for Thomas
Year 7 pupil Thomas R has made quite an impression on the sporting scene over the past 18 months. At the age of 12, he is a member of the Somerset County Cricket Club Emerging Player Programme, and already plays in the Somerset U13 team.
On Saturday he may have made history when he scored a century for Taunton St Andrews B team in their away match at Wembdon, believed to have become the youngest ever to do so in a men’s match in the Somerset League.
Thomas was a key member of the King's Hall cricket team that reached the IAPS Under 11 National Finals last (cricket) season. Proving himself quite the all-round sportsman, he also excels in several other sports. In hockey, he was part of our U12 hockey team, due to play in the IAPS National Finals in March 2020, as well as playing for the Taunton Civil Service U12 hockey team that won the Somerset County Championship. In squash, he is the U13 Devon champion and is the South West of England U13 champion. In golf, the very accomplished player plays at Taunton & Pickeridge off a handicap of 15 as well as being a member of the Somerset U14 Junior Development squad in 2019.
Ali Halls, our Director of Sport said: "We were really proud to hear about Thomas success for Taunton St Andrews. He is a fantastic all round sportsman and really excels at cricket at school. He has always demonstrated the most excellent attitude towards training and constantly strives to improve. He has a very bright future in cricket and we look forward to seeing him back in September."
