Captain J Woodard Royal Navy

BASC (Hons), MSc, PG Cert, Education and Pastoral, Careers Link Governor

Jol is a very proud Great-Great Grandson of the founder, Nathaniel. He was born in Cornwall, educated at Lancing College and studied economics and geography at Exeter University. He joined the Royal Navy in 1991 as a helicopter pilot and is still serving.

His 30+ year career has spanned a variety of operations (ashore and afloat), training and education, capability management, defence engagement, and strategy development. Three years as Captain of Britannia Royal Naval College (the headmaster of the RN's officer training establishment) was followed by a year at the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies. He is currently on secondment to the Department of International Trade as the Senior Naval Advisor.

Leadership has been a feature of Jol's career. To add academic rigour to his extensive operational and lived experience he recently completed a MSc in Leadership with Cranfield University and a PG Cert in Strategic Studies with Kings College London.

Jol is also Chairman of the Royal Navy Winter Sports Association and a Trustee of the UK Armed Forces Winter Sports Association.
