11+ Scholarship Day Inspires Local Children
Earlier this month we hosted Inspire, a one-day scholarship event that was jam-packed with workshops and activities focused on sport, outdoor adventure, and the performing arts.
The aim of the event was to enhance and develop the talents of Year 6 pupils across the South West, helping them to prepare for our forthcoming scholarship assessments later this week. To match the ever-changing interests of participants, we were able to offer a diverse range of workshops that were led by specialist staff. The results were amazing.
The morning began with a vibrant and immersive drama and performing rrts workshop led by the Heads of Drama at both King’s Hall and King’s College, as well as visiting dance teacher, Kelly Druce. Inspired by Broadway, the pupils engaged in a number of mini ‘musical’ activities, which saw them recreate scenes from the popular Matilda the Musical and learn a dance routine to Hairspray’s ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’.
Meanwhile, our brain-twisting ‘tribe’ activity was the perfect alternative for those looking for adventure. Headed by King’s College CCF Commanding Officer , Maj Steve King RMR and Capt Pete Bellfield RMR, thrill seekers took part in a series of team-based scenarios, using their leadership and communication skills to navigate a number of sticky scenarios.
Following a delicious lunch and a much needed-break, the children were able to select up to three sports masterclasses to fill their afternoon. Hockey, cricket, netball and kayak polo were just some of the many options available. With a games-based approach, expert tuition, and first-class facilities, the sessions were the perfect way for children to develop their existing skills whilst having fun.
