Year 3 Book Club and Year 8 Book Breakfast | King's Hall School Taunton

On Monday afternoon, the library hosted our Year 3 parent and child Book Club, where we chatted about Abi Elphinstone’s captivating picture book story, The Snow Dragon. Children and adults alike had been swept away by Abi’s beautiful writing and Fiona Woodcock’s fabulous snowy illustrations. We were all very glad that there was a happy ending for orphan Phoebe and her little dog Herb!

Then, on Friday morning, our Year 8 Book Breakfast gathering took place in the library. Fuelled by a delicious spread of Danish pastries and fruit juice, pupils shared their thoughts about the two books that they had read over the Christmas holidays: The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper and No One is Too Small to Make a Difference by Greta Thunberg.

There was mixed feedback about The Dark is Rising, with several readers enjoying the excitement of Will’s adventure as he struggles to comprehend his newfound powers and travels through time, however others found the plot a little confusing. Then followed a lively and interesting discussion about Greta Thunberg’s book of speeches raising awareness of the climate crisis.
