We have once again experienced another successful outing at this year’s Taunton Drama Festival, which took place just a few weeks ago. The standard was exceptionally high, with pupils performing at their very best and representing the school with great enthusiasm.

Over the course of the week, 41 pupils from Years 1 to 8 managed to secure first, second and third placings, and also scooped up a shiny new medal or cup. Particular congratulations must be awarded to Charlotte S, who won the ‘Year 3 and Under Verse Speaking’ after receiving an 'outstanding' mark. This reflects a score of 90% or more and is only awarded for “an exceptional performance, both technically and artistically.” Across the whole week, only two of these coveted prizes were awarded.

Her outstanding performance of Brian Moses’ Cakes in the Staffroom also landed her with the Robin Bush Award for ‘Performer of the Year’. Charlotte was personally selected by adjudicator, Rebecca Vines, to receive the prestigious accolade.

Commenting on the week, Speech and Drama teacher, Alastair Kirby said: “Each and every pupil represented the school excellently, and it was so lovely to see them get some much-deserved credit for their hard work; whether an applause, a medal or a trophy.”

He added: “A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s event, and many thanks to all staff and parents for their support in helping the children to practise their lines, build their confidence, and transport them to and from the competition. You are all doing wonderful things for Speech and Drama at King’s Hall, and I thank you for your immense and continued support.”
