Year 3 and 4 Pupils Race to Success at Inter-House Sports Day
Perfectly timed with our recent sunny spell, pupils in Year 3 and 4 headed to the King’s Hall Athletics Arena for their annual Sports Day.
All of the children were required to compete for their Houses in a minimum of one track event, one field event and the relay.
The event began with the 55m hurdles, with both girls and boys representing their Houses with great enthusiasm. With three of the four races won by Bradfield, they laid down the gauntlet from the outset.
The first round of field events followed briskly, with the girls throwing the rounders’ ball and the boys doing the long jump. Both Gibbs and Oldham tied for the top spot in the former, with Whitby scoring highest in the latter.
The 150m saw Bradfield, Whitby and Gibbs all recording impressive scores while, in the 600m, which was a tough challenge given the weather, Bradfield runners won both the girls’ and boys’ races, with Gibbs close on their heels.
The final individual races were the 75m sprints where Bradfield, Gibbs and Whitby all secured first places. The field events concluded with the Gibbs girls winning the long jump and the Whitby boys the cricket ball throw.
The afternoon ended with an exciting shuttle relay finale including dropped batons and missed changeovers all adding to the tension!Bradfield crossed the line first for the girls’ relay and Whitby the boys.
It was a fantastic day filled with great camaraderie, friendly rivalry, sportsmanship and some yummy refreshments!
