Pupils in Year 2 have been getting up close and personal with plant, animal and microhabitats this week as part of their ‘Habitats’ topic in Science.

Armed with nets and see-through containers, the children visited the school ponds to explore the habitats that were lurking within. Guided by their identification sheets, the pupils were able to check off their discoveries, which included the likes of snails, shrimps, caddis fly larva, and slimy leeches!

The bird hide was also open, which allowed the children to look out over the water through one of the openings. From here, they could see many newts at the bottom of the pond and even a few ducks, which had landed on the water.
