With their waterproofs, wellies and turnout rugs in tow, eight determined riders arrived at King’s Sedgemoor Equestrian Centre for their first NSEA Grass Roots Show Jumping competition.

Spurred on by the glorious sunshine, each pupil performed superbly, demonstrating spirit and determination in each of their classes. The first riders, Pippa Roe, and Teddy and Charlotte Ambler, were understandably a little nervous, but pushed past their jitters to secure 1st place for the King’s Hall team in the 40cm event.

Inspired by this, the 50cm team set off with great enthusiasm, showing some fast, accurate riding. Frankie Rifaat-Whitehouse, Wilf Gostling and Lizzy Roe all went clear, with Charlotte Ambler achieving a beautiful accurate round with just one small error. This was enough to secure another win for the team.

In the 60cm, the jumps were a lot bigger and the team worked together to discuss the best ways of riding each jump. Frankie, Lizzy and Wilf evidently found the solution, riding three clear rounds and cutting all the corners they could to secure another first place. Wilf also secured third place in the individual competition – beating his sister by just a few seconds!

As a result of their success, the team have qualified for the regional finals in January. This is a fantastic achievement and we look forward to reporting on their future success in the new year.
