A week with more than the usual ‘named’ days with Shrove Tuesday, then Ash Wednesday, World Book Day Thursday and Maths Week Friday (?) left poor old Monday without much to talk about! We have had loads of giggles, learning, challenges and plenty of shared fun amongst the school, so whether you be child, parent or staff we have all collaborated for the greater good – well done us!
The Reading Surgery in the Library will be mentioned in the Newsletter but a particularly big well done to Mrs Marcuccilli for a truly inspirational idea - yesterday a tweet was picked up and the concept became headlines in Independent School Parent! There is a new video in our Video Gallery online about it along with one about Maths Week.
No-name-Monday saw the arrival at King’s Hall of Mr Nick Gunn, who is Headmaster of King’s College, Doha. You will be aware that the school opened in September and is developing very well under his guidance and with our support and involvement. Mr Gunn was here to gain an even deeper understanding of King’s Hall and to base his recruitment for staff in the UK. Here is a paragraph that he has put in his own weekly Newsletter on his return to Doha.
"I was very fortunate this week to spend three days at King’s Taunton, UK. This was an opportunity to meet Justin Chippendale and his team at the Prep School as well as spend some time at King’s College Senior School. It was very much an opportunity to compare our Doha progress thus far as well as meet staff and students and interview potential teachers for our new classes in September. Considerable time was spent in discussion with regard to developing partnerships between the schools and the future experiences this will afford our students. The wonderful setting, facilities and staff of King’s UK always impress me hugely but it was the manners, confidence, enthusiasm and independence ingrained in each child that really stood out. At King’s College Doha, we are some way on our journey towards achieving all this ourselves and very fortunate indeed to have such wonderful partners in our development as a young school".
At the end of next week, Claire and I have been invited, along with our Chair-elect of Governors, Linda Nash, and Director of Finance, Miles MacEacharn, to the school’s Official Opening on 12th March. The ceremony will be attended by Sheikh Mansoor Al Thani, the sponsor of the school, and Mr Ajay Sharma, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Qatar - I have made a mental note to sharpen up on my etiquette, polish my shoes and start ironing some shirts! I also hope to meet some more of the terrific children in the hope they, at least, will laugh at my terrible jokes.
As we head into March I hope you have put Sunday 19th in your diaries to join the fun of the Friends of King’s Hall Easter Egg Hunt. Do contact the Office to let us know if you intend to come along so that we cook enough juicy burgers for everyone!
