Art Department – Michaelmas Term 2010

In the Michaelmas Term, the Specialist Art group travelled to the National Museum Cardiff where they were able to view a wide range of art, from pieces by the great masters such as Cézanne and Monet to contemporary works from artists Merlyn Evans and Elisabeth Fritsch. Pupils were able to experience the paintings and sculptures first hand, capturing them in observational drawings whilst exploring the scale and media.

Other year groups worked extremely hard on a variety of projects, producing some lovely work, from stained-glass bells, hand-felted Christmas decorations, marbled baubles and work towards the 'Time' project.

We are also very proud to have entered a range of works both 2D and 3D from a variety of pupils and year groups into the prestigious Saatchi Gallery National competition. Entries included sculptures, paintings and drawings from Mollie Merchant, Flic Hamilton, Sophie Gibb, Jack Samuels, India Bannister, James Crocker and Grace Dunn. You can view this work at: www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk and follow the link to the school prize.
