I have commented before on my perception that rapid advancement in technology has been one of the steepest learning curves for me as a teacher over the past decade. Not only in terms of hardware/software that I now use in my daily life to do my job but also in terms of the requirements of the Computing curriculum. 10 years ago I would have been teaching Year 1 children ‘mouse control’ to ‘drag and drop’, today we are teaching them to write their own algorithms on touch-screen computers.
Recently I was reminded again of this advancement when, in casual conversation, I was telling a child I thought the weather was going to be set fair for the day but that I wasn’t sure about the following day. His response really did make me laugh out loud whilst simultaneously realising I still have much catching up to do, “Why didn’t you just ask Alexa?”! Definitely one for the memory book!
