Tennis at King's Hall

Tennis is played at King's Hall in PE lessons during the Summer Term, from Year 3 to Year 8, on six astroturf pitches and 4 hard courts – enclosed in the former walled garden. Children can use these courts in their break times and in games sessions.

Regular fixtures are played by our girls' Under 13 and Under 12 pairs against other prep schools, along with entry into the AEGON Under 13 Team Tennis competition by both boys and girls – where we have enjoyed much success and hotly contested matches over the past few years. Girls' Under 10 and Under 11 pairs are also encouraged to play matches against local schools once they are capable.

For the younger pupils from Year 1 to Year 4, short tennis coaching is available all year round by keen and well qualified coaches, either in our sports hall or on the outdoor courts during the Summer Term. And for those more enthusiastic about the sport, Blackbrook Tennis Centre in Taunton provides additional specialist coaching.

Tennis is a developing sport at King's Hall. We offer lunch time sessions from Pre-Prep right through to Year 8, and then onto King's College. During the winter months we train outdoors when possible, but if this is not possible, we can adapt the sessions for our Sports Hall. In the Summer Term, we are looking to increase the number of fixtures that we play, without compromising the cricket season.

Weekly Coaching

Weekly Coaching

Derek Blackmore and Kerry Quirk will be assisting with the coaching at King’s Schools. Their experience and coaching is of a very high level and will be of great benefit to our programme. We are currently offering the following sessions:

This is a high performance tennis session focusing on technique, fitness and tactics. This will be led by Derek every Monday and will involve an hour of small group lessons. Pupils will be allocated into groups as per playing standard. These sessions are not compulsory and will incur a termly charge of £110 per pupil. Parents will need to provide their own transport as sessions take place at King's College. If you are interested, please email:

Tuesdays (12.45pm - 1.25pm)

This session is aimed at our top tennis performers and will take place on the outdoor courts. Pupils should change at break time, eat lunch at 12:30pm, and head to the courts with their rackets.

Thursdays (12.45pm - 1.25pm)

This is an open session and aimed at the wider audience. We would like pupils to develop their skills and have a chance to play lots of tennis. Pupils should change at break time, eat lunch at 12:30pm, and head to the courts with their rackets.
