Support staff
The King’s Hall School support staff are a unique set of men and women.
Visitors to our school comment upon the smartness of the grounds, the cleanliness of our teaching, general and boarding areas, and the innovative maintenance and improvement activities. Visitors and parents should, of course, expect very high standards in this impressive Prep School. Most schools of our size have a small army of support staff making sure that the teaching standards are supported in the very best way. King's Hall is different.
Our support staff are small in number but big in flexibility and dedication. Our three grounds staff not only provide one of the best junior cricket squares in the South West, they maintain our full-size artificial playing pitch in immaculate condition, they care for over 50 acres of grounds and gardens, they build walls, fell trees, refurbish our listed buildings (we have a 2* listing), but also provide qualified electrical support whilst maintaining our own grass-cutting equipment. A team of magicians.
Cleaning is carried out by a team of part-time cleaners who keep our very old buildings looking smart and healthily clean. We have just one Caretaker who lives on site and who also acts as our first-line security officer, part-time PC administrator (we also benefit from cover by our associated senior school King's College, Taunton in this important area) and Head Porter.
Maintenance is a one-man affair. A magician in his own right, our Maintenance Manager has been in King's Hall for over 20 years and was previously part of the senior school's maintenance team. From small (and large) building projects to play scenery and carpentry of all kinds, we are blessed with a man of many great skills. He is supported by our electrical groundsman and an independent plumber who cheerfully sort out the many expected old building problems that occur.
Our catering has been contracted out since 1999 and is renowned throughout the South West – after match team teas on Wednesday and Saturday are talked about with reverence. Our contractors are Palmer and Howells, a relatively small catering contractor but one which understands our standards and expectations and recruits only staff who fit into the King’s Hall way. The facility is superbly led by a dedicated Catering Manager who manages the provision of first rate daily and function food.
