Spirituality
My name is Father Mark Smith and it is my privilege to be chaplain to the King’s Hall School community. As a Christian school in the Anglican tradition and part of the Woodard Schools’ family we believe that the spiritual component of education, with the Eucharist at the centre, is vital in the development of the whole child.
Our community is diverse but we encourage the school community to explore freely their understanding of themselves in the world through a rich programme of academic, cultural, sport and social endeavour. But the touchstone for all is our human spirituality as embodied in Jesus Christ.
In a world where religion and its practices have often been discredited or misunderstood, we believe in the importance of religious literacy and offer our pupils opportunities to study and explore the great faith traditions of the world in the classroom.
We gather as a school for devotions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I love these opportunities to interact with school and to join with others in leading worship that is vibrant and relevant to children. With the permission of the Bishop and their parents, increasing numbers of children are being admitted to communion before confirmation and there is a school Eucharist once or twice a term. At various times throughout the year, the school community joins together with parents and others for wonderful and moving acts of worship like Remembrance Day and the Carol Service.
As chaplain, I am also always available to the whole community for counselling, advice and for baptisms, weddings and other pastoral ministry. If you would like to make contact with me, please feel free to do so.
