Joining King's Hall at Reception your child will receive all the support they need to ensure they fulfill their potential. By working closely with parents and carers, we get to know each individual child, which allows us to create a happy and fun school experience.
Through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum we can meet individual needs and interests. During this period of rapid development, we provide new challenges and opportunities to help children make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow.
Learning Through Play
We promote effective early learning through play and exploration, active learning and creating, and problem solving. By developing the children’s ability to make decisions and become independent learners, we offer encouragement at every stage of their learning journey. There continues to be a strong emphasis on learning through play but the balance shifts to more structure as the year progresses.
Throughout the Reception year, a Foundation Stage Profile will be completed. Teachers will make a series of assessments across seven areas of development known as Early Learning Goals. This then provides a picture of what a child has achieved, knows and can do. There are no tests or tasks and the teachers build the profile over the year. Our Pre-Prep children are lucky enough to have their very own Prep-Prep library, with magical toadstool seats, tended by our wonderful librarian Mrs M.
Our Reception Staff
Our lovely Reception staff are Class Teacher Mrs C Fidler, and Teaching Assistants Mrs J Coles and Mrs J Whatling.
Do come along and meet us – we would love to show you why we should be your primary choice!
As well as fun and learning inside the classroom, our Reception children also get the opportunity to have fun outside in our 'Little Woods' Forest School.
Here they can explore, climb trees, feed the hens, and guinea pigs, make pizzas in the stone oven and even toast marshmallows around the fire!
The benefits of Forest School are far and wide – sessions offer the chance to take learning out of the classroom and into the great outdoors. Children are given an opportunity to learn in a new way and within a new environment. Forest School introduces a whole new dimension to teaching and learning, with new experiences for both the children and teachers.
As for extra activities, individual music lessons are available, as well as our hobbies programme. This includes ballet, Tae Kwon Do, choir, sports club, mindfulness, dance club, and rugby stars.
Children can also join our Tea Time Club. Sessions can be booked in advance if parents are working or can be booked on the day that care is required. This flexible approach is essential to meet the needs of increasingly busy families and the children are able to take part in these various activities, all under the watchful eye of qualified staff.
