Reception is the final year in the Foundation Stage journey.

We strive to give every child the support they need to fulfil their potential and achieve this by building positive relationships with parents and carers.

Through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum we can meet individual needs and interests. During this period of rapid development, we provide new challenges and opportunities to help children make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow.

We promote effective early learning through playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically. We endeavour to develop the children’s ability to make decisions and become independent learners, thus encouraging them to share responsibility for their learning. There continues to be a strong emphasis on learning through play but the balance shifts to more structure as the year progresses.

Throughout the Reception year a Foundation Stage Profile will be completed. Teachers will make a series of assessments across seven areas of development known as Early Learning Goals. This then provides a picture of what a child has achieved, knows and can do. There are no tests or tasks and the teachers build the profile over the year.
