Happy Lent Term!

Happy New Year! We hope you have all had an exciting but restful break during the holidays. The children certainly needed a rest after their hard work and the fantastic performance of ‘Gabriel’s Big Break!’

Curriculum

This term in Reception our main topics are Jungle Animals and Space, and we will also continue to develop the children’s own personal interests through ongoing observations. The children will continue their learning journey through the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which are as follows:

Prime Areas

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Communication and Language

Specific Areas

Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding of the World
Expressive Arts and Design

In January, as part of our Jungle Animal topic, we are visiting Noah’s Ark Farm in Bristol, which will allow the children to experience, first-hand, some life size jungle animals. This will encourage strong links in their learning experience from school. We welcome children to bring in books and artefacts relevant to our topic. The children will also be able to share their learning in our class assembly on Tuesday 4th February.

We will also be visiting We the Curious to support our Space topic in March; further details to follow.

Our first literacy focus text this term will be Jack and the Beanstalk.

During this half term we will also engage in activities for Chinese New Year so the children may begin to learn about different cultures and the beliefs of other people. All further information, including dates and times, can be found in the school diary and weekly Pelican News.

We will be holding Learning Diary meetings next half term, but please feel free to come and discuss what your child has been doing in school, as we know they are often reluctant to share information! Please also encourage your child to bring in items of interest from home - they do not need to be topic related. It will enable us to get to know your child better and what their individual interests are.

We hope you are enjoying Tapestry as much as we do, so please do add your own observations and comments as it’s wonderful for us to see what your children get up to at home! We can’t always reply, but we do enjoy receiving your comments.
