A Weekend on the Water
Following exam season, and to celebrate one of their final weeks at King’s Hall, our Year 8s spent an action-packed long weekend at the Bracken Tor Youth Hostel on Dartmoor.
The group took part in a variety of exercises that included gorge scrambling, canoeing, kayaking and raft building. They also went to the coastal town of Bude, where they enjoyed body boarding, swimming, and a few rounds of beach football.
After all the fun, it was time for some serious work, and thanks to the Captain, and Mrs Woodard of the British Royal Naval College, the children were presented with the opportunity to command a frigate using a bridge simulator. They also took a tour on the River Dart on picket boats, and even visited the station’s beagle pack.
Head of Outdoor Pursuits, David Hands, said: “Everyone had such a fantastic weekend, and I would like to thank each and every one of the pupils for working together and entering into the spirit of the whole venture.”
He added: “I would also like to extend my gratitude to the dedicated school staff who worked around the clock and to those at the BNRC Dartmouth for giving up their time to make it such a special day for the children, as well as us adults.”
