Outdoor Pursuits

King's Hall School provides adventurous outdoor activities as part of its extension of the school sports programme.  The activities covered here are those offered to children in the school Years 5-8. These activities are not compulsory but offered on a weekly basis to those children who wish to take part during the Wednesday and Saturday afternoon games sessions.

Activities are deliberately organised in different abilities with some payable and some free, to accommodate as many children as possible. The children are able to find out about weekly activities through the Outdoor Pursuit notice board, tutors encouraging them to participate, and assembly presentations and announcements.

The most popular activities include sailing, mountain biking, orienteering, hill walking and some climbing or abseiling activities.

Outside the weekly programme children are given a chance to attend other trips throughout their schooling.  Boarders will often be taken climbing or to do water sports on their Sunday activity. The school runs an annual ski holiday to the French Alps, a rugby tour, a cultural Switzerland trip for Year 7 pupils and a Leavers' weekend to Okehampton for Year 8 pupils. Year 5 pupils attend a three-day residential event at Kilve Court as part of their Geography curriculum and enrichment programme. Year 4 pupils visit New Barn in Dorset for a two-day overnight trip as part of their History curriculum and enrichment programme.
