Lily wins 2017 Taunton Young Theatre Performer of the Year!

Sunday 5th March was the Taunton Young Theatre Performer of the Year Competition, an event which takes place in two categories, Junior (10-14 years) and Senior (15-18 years).

As part of the Junior Competition, performers between the ages of 10 and 14 have to perform a 10 minute recital based on a chosen theme. The recital can include any type of performance, including solo acting, poetry, prepared reading, song, mime and news reading.

We had three pupils from King's Hall School taking place in this competition this afternoon, Lily MacNeice, Izzy Mantyk-House and Cassius Hammick whose performances were all absolutely outstanding.

The standard was incredibly high and included 11 children from across Taunton and Somerset. The adjudicator would have found it incredibly difficult to find a winner, as every performance was brilliant!

I am incredibly pleased to say that King's Hall were awarded with both 1st and 2nd place in this competition, which is an outstanding achievement. Izzy Mantyk-House came 2nd, with a mark of 90 for her recital entitled 'The Feline', which is in the 'Outstanding' band, and Lily MacNeice won the competition, with a wonderful performance on 'Mirrors', gaining 91 marks for this recital.

As the Junior Winner, Lily had to then watch and anxiously wait through the Senior competition to see who would win this competition overall.

The Senior Category was of an equally outstanding standard and made up of 5 performers aged between 15 and 18.

At the end of the Senior Competition, Lily and the Senior Winner would be adjudicated together, with one of them being awarded the overall Taunton Young Theatre Performer of the Year 2017 Award.

I am absolutely delighted to say that the adjudicator decided that Lily deserved to be the overall winner of the competition and this year's Taunton Young Theatre Performer of the Year. This is an absolutely outstanding achievement for Lily and for King's Hall Speech and Drama, as Lily was competing against hugely talented performers up to the age of 18.

As a result, Lily, as the 2017 Taunton Young Theatre Performer of the Year has brought the prestigious Robin Bush award to King's Hall School.

What a start to the Taunton Drama Festival!
