King's Hall boys win U12 Bunbury Cricket Cup Final
The rearranged Cup Final from last term was to be played in September, which for a lot of the boys was slightly strange considering they hadn’t picked up a cricket bat for some time! On a slow pitch King’s Hall batted first and managed to score a very respectable 142 in their 30 overs. An opening partnership of 89 between George Thomas (51) and James Rew (39) saw King’s Hall off to a great start. A middle order wobble saw a dip to 117–7 and a smaller than expected score looked on the cards. Some fine batting from Tom Small, Ben Davies and Cassian McLoughlin lifted the score and spirits to a sound 142. In reply Millfield made a good start although King’s Hall kept control in the field by keeping the score down well. At 94 -2 from 20 overs the game was certainly in the balance! Wickets, then, from Aman Rao (4-25) and Charlie Sharland (2-31) combined with a couple of run outs left Millfield needing 11 from the last over with 2 wickets in hand. Cassian McLoughlin stepped up to bowl what was a fantastic over and with a run out half way through the Millfield number 11 needed to hit a boundary off the last ball. Cassian bowled well and it went for 2 runs meaning King’s Hall had won and progress through to the National rounds of the competition next term.
Well done, boys!
