James part of Somerset Squash National Champions' team
Year 8 pupil, James Rew, recently played squash for the Somerset Under 15s’ team in the National Inter-County Semi-Final and then Final alongside four other boys. The team faced some exceptionally strong squash-playing counties and won the semi-final against Northumberland to become the first junior squash team from Somerset ever to make the National Final. As if this wasn’t a big enough achievement for the boys, they then went on to win the Final against Kent! The finals weekend was attended by over 200 of the country’s leading junior players and pitted the four regional winners against each other, across five age categories in a winner takes all knockout competition played at Pontefract Squash Club in Yorkshire.
James had a fantastic time and should be extremely proud of being part of the team. Not only is he the youngest player on the team, playing two years above his age category, but he also won all of his matches. All of the boys were in high pressure matches and did tremendously well to come away with the Cup. We look forward to watching James progress in a sport he clearly relishes!
