Captain Pug author Laura James opens our Pre-Prep library

On Thursday, Year 3 and 4 book clubbers were treated to special surprise visit from the author of Captain Pug and Cowboy Pug, Laura James. The children had already read at least one of Laura’s books and so were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet her in person.

There was huge excitement all round as pupils got to hear about the inspiration behind Laura’s wonderful stories. The children were delighted to see photos of Laura’s childhood pets and we all chuckled at the funny stories that led to the creation of the characters of Pug and Lady Miranda. Laura then read a chapter of Captain Pug to the children and they donned cowboy hats and bandannas to get into the cowboy spirit.

To round off Laura’s talk we were all put through our paces with a pug-related quiz which our book clubbers passed with flying colours. (Did you know that the collective noun for a group of pugs is called a grumble? Or that a baby pug is called a puglet?) Finally, Laura signed copies of her books for the children which was very exciting and we all enjoyed a scrumptious jam tart – Pug’s favourite snack.

We can’t wait for the publication of Safari Pug in November!
