Pre-Prep Summer Show: 'Pirates versus Mermaids'
This year’s show told the tale of swashbuckling pirates and brave mermaids. ‘Me Hearty High School’ is the most distinguished pirate school on the seven seas and the trainee pirates can’t wait to graduate and become proper pirates. There is only one problem … none of them can swim! If they can’t swim they will fail their ‘ARRR’ Levels and then what will they do? The answer lies with the mermaids, but the pirates do not like mermaids and the mermaids do not like the pirates – will they ever find a way to get along?
Pelican Nursery got us all in the mood as they started the show with the girls singing and dancing to a very sweet Mermaid song and the boys following suit with a rousing rendition of ‘I’m a Little Pirate’ complete with some fearsome ‘Yo Ho Hos’!
The main story was then told through song, dance and some very fine acting. Year 2 rose to the challenge of leading the show and must all be congratulated for their confident performances. The Year 1 boys embraced their role as rumbustious pirates and the Year 1 girls proved to be quite sassy mermaids! Reception showed they really know how to have a party and performed a brilliant dance for the pool party scene.
I truly think this has possibly been my favourite show so far, which is all credit to the children’s energy and enthusiasm and the staff’s hard work in making sure it all runs smoothly.
We ended this year’s show with a tribute to Mrs Judy Yeabsley who is retiring after 37 years’ service to King’s Hall Pre-Prep. The children had learned a very special song to sing on behalf of all the children whose minds she has inspired during her distinguished career and I think it safe to say there was not a dry eye in the theatre as the song drew to a close.
What a fantastic way to end what has been another fantastic year in Pre-Prep!
