Olivia raises a fantastic £1300 for Children’s Hospice South West
On Saturday 24th September Olivia cycled 50 miles, along with her cousin, on a static bike in Minehead’s Tesco store to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice South West – a charity well known to us at King’s Hall. The idea of a sponsored cycle ride was born when Olivia heard about the amazing service that the hospice provide to life-limited children and their families. “I just wanted to do something to try and help a little bit and thought that a challenge like this would encourage people to donate money”, says Olivia. She wasn’t wrong! With 5 hours of impressively fast pedalling, generous Saturday shoppers gave just over £500 and a further £800 was raised through sponsorship running up to the event. “We’re going to present the cheque to the Children’s Hospice in half term. I think it’ll be really hard to see some of the children but I’m also looking forward to learning more about how they raise money and how it helps the children”, adds Olivia.
The charity now has three hospices – in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset – caring for over 450 children and their families. For more info go to: www.chsw.org.uk or to add to the total fundraising for the cycle challenge, go to: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/OliviaRuby50
