One of the highlights of last week was being taught how to write my name in Chinese by a Year 1 child. Since September she has shown me her Chinese writing many times and I have always been in awe of the artistic elegance of it. Therefore I asked her a couple of weeks ago if she could teach me how to write my name, to which she replied, “I will ask my mum to teach me and then I will teach you.” So last Wednesday I sat down for the first part of my lesson and, although feeling a little nervous, I could not have asked for a more patient or fantastic teacher. She guided me very carefully though each intricate marking and was also able to tell me about how the pictures we were creating to form the letters made other words too; it really was fascinating! The second part of the lesson the following day went just as smoothly and I am now very proud of my new found skill! I am also very proud of my teacher who has told me I need to keep on practising until I can do it all by myself!
