2012 Nursery in the woods MAIN

16/01/2012

What better way to spend the afternoon ….. in the woods, the sun shining and twenty Nursery children wrapped up warmly ready to embrace a fun packed few hours.

As the children climbed into the shed, they were greeted by a robin fluttering around inside. The children wanted to feed him so we decided to create our own recipe for bird food (consisting of anything we could find lurking in the cupboard!).  We came up with a box of cornflakes, grass seed, raisins, chicken corn and custard creams! The children found a large bowl and crushed all the ingredients together.  We then lit a fire and everyone toasted slices of bread,  spread them with lard and then threaded them onto garden twine.  The children then went off in search of a branch or bush to hang their bird toast from. The chickens thought it was Christmas and happily pecked away - not sure the robin got a look in!

We got so carried away we didn’t realise the time and, as Mums and Dads arrived, we quickly toasted the rest of the bread and the children went home munching on hot buttery toast.

A treat was had by all with many more afternoons to look forward to.
