Royal Marines Visit

14/11/2011
Monday morning’s assembly, following Remembrance weekend, will go down in the school’s memory as a particularly vibrant one as the school was visited by The Corps of Drums from The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, Plymouth. Under the direction of Sergeant Bugler Chaz Brown, these 5 people completely enthralled the assembly with their intricate and sensational drumming and bugling display; it goes without saying that their appearance and bearing were immaculate.
The performance having finished, Chaz asked for questions from the audience, after which we were treated to an ad hoc “generation game” which involved a pupil (Joe Messenger) and a member of staff (Mrs Ruth Thomas) getting dressed up in part of the uniform!! Complete with pith helmet and drum they tried extremely hard to keep up with the very intricate display and as you can imagine, this was an uproarious and hilarious moment for the audience and they loved it!
After the assembly had finished, The Royal Marines very kindly agreed to conduct a “drumming workshop” for those pupils who were taking individual drumming lessons at the school. This proved to be extremely successful and we are grateful to The Royal Marines for providing us with this level of internationally renowned expertise and of course for the way in which they entertained us throughout the assembly.
