Reversible and Irreversible Changes!

23/01/2012
Year 3 took to the woods this morning for a fun, action packed science lesson. As part of our topic on ‘Solids and Mixtures’ the children investigated melting and freezing, as well as reversible and irreversible changes.
After collecting kindling and small pieces of wood, the fire pit was lit and the investigations got under way. All manner of materials were heated and carefully observed and some interesting results were recorded. After frying eggs and toasting marshmallows, the children took turns to stir the twelve melting bars of chocolate and then added a large quantity of cornflakes. On a table in Mrs Thomas’ classroom a ‘well guarded’ reversible change took place and at the end of the day the children were able to confirm that the melted chocolate had indeed frozen and returned to its original state. Of course, they had to eat the scrumptious chocolate crispy cakes just to make sure!
