We are delighted to announce that Mr Magnus Mowat has won a prestigious national award as Independent School Governor of the Year. The award was presented at the Independent Schools Awards 2010 ceremony at the Oxford Belfry on 11th November.

Mr Mowat retired as the chairman of governors of King's Schools, Taunton (comprising King's Hall School and King's College) in July this year after ten years as a governor.

Under his chairmanship both schools have seen major change and have enjoyed a great deal of success. He has brought an experienced financial eye to bear on management and has been instrumental in seeing both safely through financially challenging waters.

Of his award, Magnus said: "It was a great surprise to find myself even on the short list for the IS Governor Award. I hugely enjoyed my time on the board of King's Schools, Taunton, and playing a part in the team. We worked hard to improve what we provide for the youngsters in our care. The schools aim to give a broader approach to life than just the textbook version and this we are succeeding in doing. My admiration for all those who work to this end never ceases."
