Marcus Sedgwick at King's Hall!

01/12/2011
The excitement was palpable as the children filed into the Arts Centre where famous author, Marcus Sedgwick, was waiting to talk to Years 7 and 8 about his books and writing.
Marcus was visually striking at about 6'4" and dressed in black, however, he is very interesting to talk to and not at all scary - which his books might lead you to expect.
We learnt that Marcus had drawn inspiration from many sources from Nesferatu to Star Wars and a book called The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell which distils all the common elements of many folk stories, myths and legends. He told us how a picture of a cute little kitten with a ball of wool represented an incident in My Swordhand is Singing and how he found a picture of two skeletons that perfectly represented part of one of the stories in Midwinterblood, his latest book.
The audience were enthralled and asked many intelligent questions at the end of his talk and were delighted to have their books signed by him. Thank you, Marcus!
