As part of their wider Geography experience the three Year 6 classes each spent a morning surveying a stretch of the River Holford.

The children sampled three sections of the river and collected measurements on the channel of the river, its gradient and the velocity of flow.  The highlight of each sample point was when two yellow ducks were released down a 10 metre stretch of the river, with the time taken determining the flow rate - this brings a whole new meaning to duck racing!

Back in the classroom the children used the data to draw different types of graphs and use these to make observations about any changes in the river along the route.
