King's Hall Girls Triumph at Somerset Schools' Championships
Year 7 pupil at King's Hall, Grace Fielder, recently won the Under 13 (Minor Girls) Quadrathlon when she competed in the Somerset Schools AA / County AA and Open Combined Events Championships at Millfield.
The Championship is a Somerset School’s competition, run in conjunction with the Dorset Championships, and also includes guest competitors from South West athletics clubs.
The Quadrathlon consists of 100m, shot putt, long jump and 800m in all of which Grace performed extremely well.
After achieving personal bests in shot putt, long jump and 800m metre events, Grace won her age group competition convincingly, with a score of 755 points, 86 points clear of second place, to become Somerset County Champion. This success has Grace – following in the footsteps of Emilia Smith, who is currently in Year 8 at King’s Hall, who won the title last year.
In addition to Grace, there were also four Year 8King’s Hall girls competing at the event in the Junior Girls Pentathlon which is aimed at Year 8 and Year 9 girls, including Emilia Smith who finished fifth, Jemima Rundell , Julia Louw and Molly Landau.
Sal McDermott, Head of Girls' Games said “This was a great achievement by Grace and thoroughly deserved after all of the hard work that she has put in, training all year round with Taunton Athletics Club. To build on last years’ success and also have four older girls do well in the pentathlon shows the strength of talent and growing interest there is in combined events at King’s Hall.”
