Junior Prep (7-11)
Children join the Prep department of the school at age 7, moving into Year 3 and a new part of the school. At King’s Hall, we understand that moving up into a new section of the school can be a daunting prospect; with this in mind, we take every step to ensure the transition is both smooth and natural for the children. Years 3 and 4 are taught in familiar class groups, as in the Pre-Prep department. In addition, their classrooms are located in the ‘Rose Garden’, a decked area of the Prep department which, whilst being a fully integrated part of the Prep school, it is also only a small distance from the Pre-Prep department. We believe such factors are reassuring, whilst still allowing the children to naturally progress up through the school. For subjects such as Art and Design Technology, pupils are taught by our specialist subject teachers.
In Year 5 children move into form groups to begin their subject lessons, with dedicated staff, covering the full academic curriculum. It is evident by the work the children produce that they are well prepared for this progression and enjoy the focus and challenges offered.
Year 6 sees the continuation and culmination of the academic and emotional development the children have naturally undergone. By the end of the summer term, they are ready to move into the Senior Prep, and take on the increased responsibilities and opportunities available for their final years at King’s Hall.
