A Little Bit About Us

A Little Bit About Us

King’s Hall School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day prep school for children aged 2 to 13, offering places to boarders from the age of 8. We have small class sizes, high standards, lots of co-curricular provision, nationally successful sport, dynamic drama, vibrant music and exciting art. We also have IT, drama, art, DT and music specialist provision as well as a growing golf course.

We aim to give a first-class service to parents by ensuring that pastoral care, teaching, games and leisure facilities are maintained at a very high standard, within a clear but friendly disciplinary framework.

We have a simply spectacular setting in 50 acres of countryside and woodlands and those terrific facilities include a Theatre/Arts Centre, Sports Hall, Astroturf, Computer Suite and Library.

At the age of 13, children move onto our senior school King's College, Taunton.

Why choose King’s Hall School and King’s College?

Why choose King’s Hall School and King’s College?

King’s Hall School and King’s College are exceptionally happy, thriving boarding and day schools situated in the heart of Somerset. Providing quality education for 2 to 18 year olds, both schools are members of the respected Woodard Corporation and are situated in Taunton.

We follow a traditional curriculum, strong on rigour and the difficult academic subjects, taught by teachers chosen for their deep knowledge of the subject and their infectious enthusiasm. 98% of pupils go on to University, many to Oxford, Cambridge and other international universities.

But the best possible academic results are just the start. Our aim is to engender wonder and excitement and an enthusiasm for learning, underpinned by the living community and the pastoral care within which our pupils feel safe, happy, loved and valued.

Caring and Nurturing

Caring and Nurturing

Our schools are special places for nurturing the spirit. Our approach is generous, outward-looking, caring and challenging: a lifelong foundation for success and personal fulfilment.

Boarding is a strong feature, which contributes to the real family atmosphere. The schools are small enough to be friendly and yet large enough to compete nationally. The outstanding modern facilities and stunning locations ensure that children enjoy a challenging all-round education in a progressive, secure and stimulating environment.

As with all Woodard Schools, great emphasis is placed on developing the individual: kindness, consideration, courtesy and respect for one another are fundamental to the ethos of the schools. A good work ethic and small class sizes help sustain progress, and specialist teaching is the norm. We aim to identify the natural ability in every child, developing special, well-balanced, confident people through activities such as music, performing arts, sport, Forest School, Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

The town also makes an ideal base for exploring the nearby Blackdown Hills, a strip of countryside along the Devon - Somerset border which were designated an area of outstanding natural beauty in 1991. With Bath, Bristol and Exeter on its doorstep, Taunton is situated in a great location and has excellent transport links to London and other major cities in the UK.
