Today we awoke to a big decision having been taken – it was OUT. And then David Cameron made a decision - OUT. This afternoon we had an IN or OUT decision to make for the Year 4 plays – due to possible showers we decided to hold today’s intended outdoor performance IN the Sports Hall. What a wise move, as a torrential downpour passed overhead during the second play. It was so heavy the show was stopped for a brief time as there was no competing with the noise of the rain on the roof! A big ‘well done’ to all the children as they all did very well in coping with the disruption and at least they got to perform in the Rose Garden yesterday. As blue patches appeared in the sky there was another IN or OUT decision to be made … would they last long enough to allow us to enjoy our Fête de la Musique dehors? Those of you who came will have seen a lot of fun being had and musical talent on display around the school. The College Big Band rounded things off in style and I imagine you headed into our final weekend with your toes tapping!

Claire and I hosted this year’s Head Boys and Girls and their deputies for lunch on Monday which is always a pleasure and the same evening we had the Prep presentation which gives the Year 2 parents some insight as to what lies ahead over the next six years for their children. In fact, as I observed to the Year 2 parents, the current Year 8 were in Year 2 as Claire and I first came to King’s Hall seven years ago when they were just ‘little people’. At lunch on Monday we enjoyed the easy company of maturing, good natured, good humoured, well principled and certainly talented and purposeful teenagers (just as with the rest of Year 8) who had morphed from the little dots they were aged 7. It is a real treat to chart the development of children through the school and in a week’s time we will have to say goodbye to another cohort as they move to the next phase. On that matter, I look forward to seeing all Prep families at Prize Day next Friday and I know James Shone will be good to listen to.

So, as Britain heads into a period of some uncertainty, we are wholly focussed on the plans ahead for a brilliant last week to draw the curtain on another excellent year. I’m sure some of you will then be heading OUT of the country and no doubt many to visit Europe: hope you bought your euros yesterday?
