CONCERTS
Informal concerts are held at least once every half-term and parents are invited to see their children's progress on their chosen instrument. These concerts are the ideal platform for exposing young, inexperienced players to a live (and close up!) audience, which in turn stands them in good stead for possible future performance in examinations.
Formal Concerts are held once a term and provide an opportunity for the more experienced players to demonstrate their musical talents. The concerts take place in the Arts Centre to a much larger audience than the informal gatherings and, as before, pupils gain invaluable experience in the art of performing.
The House Music Competition is designed so that every single child takes part in one way or another and is performed in the gymnasium in front of the entire school with all the parents in attendance! Houses compete with each other on an instrumental basis then each House forms into a large choir (about 60) which includes all year groups to battle it out in the musical arena. In 2010, ABBA was the chosen subject for the competition and, needless to say, there was a riotous assembly of four top ABBA songs. After the winners were announced, the whole school then stood up and sang 'Thank You For The Music', the whole event being accompanied by a professional rock band.
