Festive Sounds are in the Air!
Our music department had been having a rather busy few weeks.
Last Tuesday, 18 pupils travelled to Wells Cathedral School to take part in a day of advanced orchestral music-making alongside pupils from Farleigh School, Andover and St Peter's, Lympstone as well as specialist musicians from Wells Cathedral School.
The difficult music was worked on in large groups with the whole orchestra, and also in smaller groups of instrumental families. Pupils were coached by expert tutors from the Cathedral School and the two pieces that were prepared for performance at the end of the day were hugely popular with the children – firstly a very beautiful arrangement of the popular Irish folk melody Slane and then a thrillingly tricky version of the Mission: Impossible theme. While it was undeniably an exhausting day, it was also enormously exhilarating and the end result was spectacular!
The following week, our senior school King's College hosted their annual Prep Schools' Strings Day with what must have been record-breaking numbers! Nine King's Hall pupils attended the day alongside many children from Exeter Cathedral School, The Downs and Perrott Hill School –bringing the total number of string players to around 40.
Director of Music, Mr Albery, led the day assisted by instrumental teachers from King's College (and a number of former King's Hall pupils were also on hand to help out!). A short concert at the end of the day demonstrated what a fun and rewarding time we all had during the course of the rehearsals as the group performed no fewer than six festive hits to an appreciative audience.
