Equestrian at King's
Did you know that you can bring your horse to school? Our Equestrian Centre is a self-contained yard consisting of eight stables, a tack room, feed/store area, indoor and outdoor tie up and wash areas, an office, and changing facilities. Located within Netherclay Livery Centre, just fifteen minutes' drive from King's Hall, you have access to two outdoor arenas, a cross country course, grazing and off-road hacking. The whole site sits within 74 acres, close to the Blackdown Hills. Many of our children ride as part of the King's Schools Equestrian Team, alongside our older pupils from King's College. It is common to hear in an assembly report the name of a rider who has played a pivotal role in a sports fixture on Saturday, as well as being part of a triumphant equestrian team the following day!
Inter-school competitions take place throughout the year and almost every Sunday during the Michaelmas Term. As members of the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA), we regularly enter teams and individuals in NSEA competitions for eventing, show jumping, dressage and jumping with style (JWS), as well as other local school events. Our teams are regularly placed at these events and the riders thoroughly enjoy competing. In the past, we have worked with top riders including world-class gold medallist and six times Olympic Three-Day eventer Mary King, who delivered an inspirational private cross-country clinic.
Head of Equestrian
Emma Edwards is our Head of Equestrian. She was brought up on a farm in South Wales and began her riding career at a young age, competing in different disciplines as a member of Llangeinor Pony Club. She became British Champion in the Winter British Show Pony Society (BSPS) Show in the Ridden Mountain and Moorland class, and has also ridden successfully at the RIHS (Royal International Horse Show (RIHS).
When not competing, Emma’s skills and experience are in demand. She attends many Coaching Club events with her horses at venues such as Buckingham Palace, Royal Ascot and Windsor Great Park. Emma is very excited about our new Equestrian Centre, and is keen to encourage pupils to follow their dreams in the world of equestrianism.
