Talented King’s Hall athlete Grace Fielder opened her outdoor athletics season on Sunday at the Great West Open in Exeter. Competing outdoors at Under 15 level for the first time, she took part in her favoured events, the 75 metre hurdles, long jump and high jump.

After a tentative start in the hurdles, Grace finished strongly to record a time of 13.05 into a strong headwind of 5.9m/s – good enough to claim a bronze medal. Next came the long jump, where she put together a strong series of jumps, the best of which was 4.83 metres. This was not only a personal best, but it also won her a silver medal.

The final event of the day was the high jump, where a solid performance equalled her outdoor personal best of 1.45 metres – good enough to lift the bronze.

This is going to be an extremely busy six months for Grace, who next weekend takes part in the Spring Open at Yeovil. She will be taking part in five events in preparation for the County Combined Events Championships at Millfield later this month.
